Bitcasa won’t destroy customer data yet thanks to court order

Bitcasa customers who signed up for the startup’s now-shelved “infinite drive” have an extra couple of days to migrate their data to Bitcasa’s new system, thanks to a temporary restraining order granted by the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, which also slated a hearing on the case.

The streaming-storage startup got a lot of heat when it told its infinite-drive customers that they must sign up for non-unlimited storage plans and pay the difference if their stored data is over the new plans’ limits.

With only about three weeks to migrate their data, some customers claimed that was not enough time and filed a tentative class-action lawsuit with the law firm Lieff Cabraser Heimann & Bernstein against Bitcasa.

Per the court order, Bitcasa will not destroy any data until November 20, and that deadline could possibly be pushed back depending on the outcome of a November 19 hearing.
